I have always loved Josh Wilson’s song “Fall Apart.” In it he sings two lines that have stuck with me and helped me through hard times: “My whole world is caving in, but I feel you now more than I did then,” and, “Maybe this is the best thing that has ever happened to me.”
You see, the Lord is compassionate and merciful, even when we don’t think He is. Even when we don’t understand why the trials come, we have to remind ourselves that He has a plan and a purpose for every pain we experience. How do I know that? Check out James 1:12 and James 5:11:
“Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial. For when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.” James 1:12
“Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful.” James 5:11
I also love this quote from John Piper, which my mom posted on Facebook just this morning (thanks, mom!):
“When Christ died he purchased for you the Yes to all God’s promises (2 Cor. 1:20), and that includes the promise to use his sovereign power to govern all the inexplicable, maddening detours and delays of your life for wise and loving purposes. He is doing a thousand things for you and for his glory in your disappointed plans.“
If you have a minute this morning, please listen to Fall Apart here. And be blessed!

so true. Reminds me of the many times i have gotten derailed on projects only to realize my path was being altered towards the right solution. and all my initial irritations and annoyances evaporate as i thank Jesus for his better wisdom. thanks Jen for your posts, you are one of my top online mentors who has helped me back to becoming a serious christian, though you may not have known it coz this is the first time i have commented on your blog.

Love that song. You probably already know Casting Crowns, and their amazing song “Praise You In This Storm”, but if not, check it out. And Big Daddy Weave have some amazing songs of truth, like “Every Time I Breathe”, “Wait” and “What Life Would Be Like”. And then there’s Starfield. Sooo many good songs of theirs.
