There is so much power and influence in music. For me, it has the power to make or break my mood. To build up or crush down my spirit. To equip me for the day or leave me feeling weak.

Anyone out there know what I mean?

There was a time in my life when music had more influence over me than it ever has before. I was going through a difficult season, and any song that had even the slightest hint of sadness in it could put me over the edge. I’ll be honest, I hated it.

So I decided to fill my life with positive music. It wasn’t that I was walking out of a clothing store at the mall every time I heard Adele playing over the intercom, but I was staying in control of the music I voluntarily fed my ears, and it helped immensley.

One of the songs that held the most meaning for me back then–and still holds meaning for me today–is “All This Time” by Britt Nicole. My favorite lines are these:

Ever since that day

Every heartache and failure
Every broken dream
You’re the God who sees
The God who rescued me

It’s been almost a year since I heard those lines for the first time on K-LOVE radio, but it was only a month ago that I learned where the term “The God Who Sees” came from. Did you know Hagar was the first one to use it in the Bible? Check out these verses from Genesis 16:
