…is nothing in comparison to the beautiful hope we have in Christ.
I love Sunday mornings. There’s just something so special about sleeping in (two hours longer than I do during the week!), waking up to sunshine and fresh coffee, and getting ready to worship God. Especially with my family.
Yesterday was sort of a family day. My mom made pot roast for lunch and it. was. delicious. So was that gorgeous sweet potato! But even sweeter were these words, which I heard earlier that morning in church:
“Why would you settle for another love when this is all yours? Why would you drink the rat poison of this world, believing its lies of immorality bringing happiness, wealth bringing security, and popularity bringing love? Why would you think that your future is all determined by your SAT, GPA, or IRA? The promises of this world are a mirage. But the promises of God, the satisfaction of God, the provision of God is forever and ever.”
For me, these words were a reminder that I don’t have to be talented, pretty, smart, musical, successful or even in love to be satisfied. Only GOD can satisfy. His promises are my hope and his love is my refuge. Not this world. Not the people I know, the plans I make or the successes I experience. Only God.
So what do I do with that?
I stop comparing myself to others. I stop comparing my “behind-the-scenes” to everyone else’s “highlight reel” (thanks for the reminder, Jaime). I stop trusting in what I have and what I’ve done, and I start trusting in God alone. I lay my life down at his feet. I give him the pen of my life’s story.
I simply trust.
And I rejoice because of the beautiful hope I have in Christ.
I will greatly rejoice in the Lord;
my soul shall exult in my God,
for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation;
he has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
as a bridegroom decks himself like a priest with a beautiful headdress, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. Isaiah 61:10
